Reflection

During my time in Miami-Dade College, it was there when I had an unbelievable urge to travel. I had also became very interested in the Japanese Language. It was at this point where I had started looking for information during my registration period in Florida International University. After spending a year studying the Japanese language alongside my original studies, I had finally been accepted in FIU’s Study Abroad Program in Japan. Words cannot express the learning experience that I had during my stay in the program. Being immersed in a different culture gave an insight that I would never had gained prior to the program.

After researching other opportunities, I had become aware that my recent trip on the study abroad program was closely related to the Florida International Universities Global Learning Medallion, where they assist students in gaining an invaluable awareness of what is occurring around the globe and how just one student can make a difference when they have participated in activities and courses that promote Global Learning.

Without a doubt, it has been an eye opener when attending these activities and courses. I have gained much more knowledge when it comes to thinking internationally and ever since, I continue to either assist or promote these amazing programs to other students. Due to my actions, I can now adapt and be flexible toward others and their own culture while keeping a fluid approach without hesitation.

After my graduation of a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, I will be continuing my education at Florida International University for a Master of Science in Cybersecurity. However, I plan to continue these activities and maintain plans of working internationally with companies in Japan. I am also looking forward in applying for the JET Program where an accepted applicant teaches the English language in the educational department in Japan. While holding an intermediate linguistic skill in Japanese, I would still like to continue my studies in the Japanese Language.

Global Learning has made a very positive impact on my life and I truly am grateful for the assistance that Florida International University has given me. Gaining such awareness of the different opportunities had altered my way of thinking and now it has become a useful tool for success on a daily basis.
